Placer People of Faith Together work with civic leaders to advocate for safe places to sleep and affordable housing for all in Placer County.

Affordable Housing in Placer County:

Shawna Purvines, Principal Planner for the Placer County Community Development Resource Agency Services: "You know we have a major housing crisis in Placer County In the next 8 years we need to build: 3,409 units for low and very low income families of 4 earning less than $65,000; and, 1,319 units for moderate income families of 4 earning less than $96,000; and Placer County is committed to making it happen.”

The above figures are from the Housing Element, and are the Regional Housing Needs Allocations (RHNA) calculations of need for the next 8 years from 2021 to 2029

HomeShare and Safe Sleep — Two Programs Launched by Placer People of Faith Together in 2021

Lost housing during Covid-19?  Living in your car? Tired of ‘couch-surfing’ and longing for stability?  In 2021, we launched the PPOFT-sponsored HomeShare American River Program that can connect you with a participating homeowner, thus giving you a place to call home

Here’s how it works: HomeShare American River Program is shared housing that connects hosts and guests of any age, be they homeowners or renters, singles, partners, or families. This program safeguards you as the host as well as the homeowner because everyone is screened, interviewed, advised and matched. Contracts between you and the homeowner are customized so that both of you are on the same page. In addition, there are regular check-ins, and if conflicts arise, there are paths to resolution.  (For additional HomeShare information: www.homeshareamericanriver.org)

In addition to our new partnership with HomeShare American River, Placer People of Faith Together is collaborating with local churches on a “Safe Sleep” program whereby people living in cars can park on church properties at night. Portable toilets will be provided as well as on-site overnight supervision with registered check-ins and check-outs.  Care of church property (‘cleanliness is next to Godliness’) and care of oneself (‘clean and sober’) will keep guests and host-churches safe. This form of caring shelter will vanish each morning and open again in the evenings.  (For additional Safe Sleep information: www.ppoft.org/contact)
